Another Goal

I'm trying to bring my lunch to work more often than I used to.  I know it will save a lot of money and I just need to take the time to do it more often.

Happy 2011!!

Overall, 2010 was a pretty good year for the West family.  Brynn turned 3 in July and has really grown up a lot this year.  We flew to Ohio in September to visit my family and had an awesome trip.  We went to Cedar Point, visited an Amish farm and restaurant owned by one of my distant relatives and went to the Columbus Zoo.  We also got to spend some time with friends that we haven't seen for a few years.  Brynn was Minnie Mouse for Halloween this year and it fit her perfectly.  Thanksgiving was great, Chad's family came to visit from California.  December was an amazing month for us.  We went to California for Christmas and Santa brought Brynn the kitchen that she's been asking for since her birthday.  It's EXACTLY like the one that we saw at Costco.  Santa and his elves worked magic!!

In August, I became a Scentsy representative and it's been a lot of fun!!  For more information on them, you can check out my website: https://amandawest.scentsy.us/

We still love Queen Creek and the house that we're in.  It's perfect for us.  This weekend, we're working on organizing Brynn's room and we're going to get her a "big-girl" twin bed soon.  We're also working on taking the Christmas tree down and rearranging the furniture in the living room this weekend.

2011 is going to be a crazy year!!  My new years resolution is to try something new every month.  I have a lot to accomplish throughout the year.  I promise to keep blogging!!

At the end of January, we're taking a trip to California and the main purpose of the trip is so that I can go to a Scentsy Spring Sprint event.  I'm pretty excited about it because last month, my sister-in-law Ana signed up to be a consultant, so we're heading there together!!

In July, I am turning 30 and we're planning a trip to Vegas to celebrate.  Chad's turning 35 a month later, so we'll celebrate his birthday too!!

In October (tentative date), my friend Rayna is getting married and she asked me to be in her wedding.  Chad and I are also celebrating our five year anniversary that month, I can't believe how fast five years have flown by.  Then in November, Ana is getting married!!

Fingers crossed for a big raise at work, we're going to need it this year!!  :)

Inspired By Heidi

Heidi posted an awesome story on her blog a couple days ago and it made me want to do some searching for poems.  It inspired me to want to put something together for Brynn that she can hang on the wall for years to come that will remind her of how much she is loved.

I came across this one and it reminded me of Bri.  Next month, she's going to be graduating with a Masters Degree in School Counseling.  She's anxious for the changes to come and is ready to get out into the working world.  Our fingers are crossed that she finds the job that she's searching for so that she can check one of her stresses off of her list.

Bri, here's a poem that I found that reminds me of you:

When the road seems too long
When darkness sets in
When everything turns out wrong
And you can't find a friend
Remember ~ you are loved

When smiles are hard to come by
And you're feeling down
When you spread your wings to fly
And can't get off the ground
Remember ~ you are loved.

When time runs out ...before you're through
And it's over before you begin
When little things get to you
And you just can't win
Remember ~ you are loved.

When your loved ones are far away
And you are on your own
When you don't know what to say
When you're afraid of being alone
Remember ~ you are loved.

When your sadness comes to an end
And everything is going right
May you think of your family and friends
And keep their love in sight
A thank-you for being loved.

May you see the love around you
In everything you do
And when troubles seem to surround you
May all the love shine through
You are blessed ~ you are loved.

Help for McKenna!!

We're going through a lot of our "stuff" right now trying to get everything packed up for our big move next weekend and I decided to sell a lot of Brynn's ladybug things from her room.  I put it all on craigslist and shortly after, I received an e-mail from Kristine.

Kristine has some family friends who received some devastating news a couple weeks ago.  Mike and Brittany's daughter, McKenna, was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma.  Kristine (and others) are trying to put together some fundraising ideas and one of them is a raffle.  We're going to give her Brynn's ladybug stuff for the raffle instead of selling it.

This is McKenna:

HERE IS A LINK TO MCKENNA'S STORY.

HERE IS A LINK TO MORE INFORMATION ON NEUROBLASTOMA.

They are from Chandler, AZ and McKenna is only 15 months old.  For some reason, this hit really close to home for me.  Maybe it's because she's such a cute little girl?  Or because she likes ladybugs?  Or because she's not too far away from us?  Or because Brynn's had two eye surgeries at the Phoenix Children's Hospital where McKenna is receiving treatment?  Or because they're my age?  Or maybe it's just because if I were in Mike and Brittany's situation, I don't know what we'd do.  From what I understand, Mike also lost his job in December.

On the link to McKenna's story, you can make donations.  Or if you aren't comfortable doing this, I would be more than happy to accept the donations for you and make sure that they get to Kristine or McKenna's family.  I really want to do what I can to help this family out.

You can mail donations to me at:

Thank you!!!

Exciting News...

We're moving!!

We're heading out to the country! Kind of... more like the middle of the desert!!

We want to buy another house, we're talking about buying out in Queen Creek. It's a smaller town, southeast of Mesa. I lived in QC several years ago and really liked it. Back then, the main roads to get to and from QC were only one lane each way. I drove ten miles to the grocery store. There was no pizza delivery.

Times have changed. Now, there are two lanes of traffic, plus turning lanes. Grocery stores, WalMart and Target have been built. There's a Papa John's now. All of this has changed in five years.

I never thought I'd move back, but the housing market has really taken a turn and there are a million houses for sale in QC. Chad's never lived so far out of town before, so we thought we'd rent there for a year or two and if we like it, then we'll buy.

The people that we are going to rent from have two other rental houses in the same neighborhood. Our friends are actually renting out those two houses, so we'll know our neighbors!! That's how we found out about the house that we're moving in to. It's probably close to 2000 square feet, 4 bedrooms, two bathrooms, with a three car garage. It's more like a 3 1/2 car garage though. It's HUGE.

I grew up in a small town and moved to Mesa when I turned 21. Over the last couple years, I have really missed that small town feeling. Chad's from Westminster, CA which is jam-packed with people, so he's never experienced it before. I think this will be a pretty good test for both of us to figure out where we'd like to raise our little family.

We've put a deposit down, turned in our notice to the landlord of the house that we're living in now and we're planning to move at the end of February. We've even started collecting moving boxes. Here's to a new adventure for the West family...

Wish us luck!!

Maintenance

UGH... Stay tuned. My blog is broken and I can't figure out how to fix it!! When I pick a layout that has my links on the right side of the site, they all go to the bottom of the page. When I pick a layout that has my links on the left side of the site, it works but everything is smooshed together and my pictures don't show up as full size.

What the heck do I do?! I can't go back to how I had it set up two days ago and I can't figure this dang thing out!!

Santa Cause

Brynn calls him "Santa" or "Santa Cause". This year, she kept telling us that she wanted a "pack-pack" (back pack) for Christmas, so we told her that if she wanted one, and if she was good (meaning that if she was nice and she listened to Mommy, Daddy and Brenda, at daycare), Santa might bring her one. She had to be the one to ask him for it though.

The first time we went to see Santa (at Bass Pro Shops!!), there was a three hour wait, so we left. The next weekend, we went to breakfast with GGMa and GGPa for GGPa's birthday. We invited them to come along with us to try to meet Santa again. We ended up getting to BPS about an hour and a half early, so we colored pictures and stood at the very front of the line while GGMa and GGPa did some shopping.

Brynn did a great job when she finally met him. She seemed a little scared at first, so I held her while she told Santa what she wanted, but I told her that he couldn't hear what she said, so she had to sit on his lap and tell him. She gave him a hug, told him "Merry Kissmas" and said "thanks".

Here are a few pictures that we took that day!!

Maybe next year we can get her to smile for the camera? :)

Dingle Bells

We've been trying to teach Brynnie how to sing Jingle Bells and she keeps singing "Dingle Bells, Dingle Bells, Dingle Bells, Dingle Bells oh all da wayeeeeeeeeeeee-yuh". Then she just goes on and on and on making up her own words and sometimes adds "dingle bells" back in there somewhere.

Oh and then she tells Chad it's his turn and he sings "Jingle Bells, Batman smells...." and she says "No way Daddy!!".

I love my little family. :)

Two Year Checkup

Today Brynn had her two year checkup. It's not my fault she's late. I had called their office a couple weeks before her birthday and had asked if she was up to date on her shots and if there was any reason for us to come in. I was told that we didn't need to come in.

Well, about a month ago, we took Brynn to the doctor because I was being a paranoid mom. It turns out she had a cold and that we were behind on a shot. Ugh.

Today, she got that shot. She keeps telling us "That girl put soap on my leeeg (leg). My leeeg hurts." She must think that the wipe that they used to clean her leg was soap and water or something. Silly girl!! She did great, she only cried for a couple minutes.

She weighs 28.4 pounds and is 34" tall. He mentioned that she's a little short for her age. What?! She seems like a giant to us.

Man, we love this kid.

Manners, Funny Conversations and Words

Tonight on our way home from Target, we were trying to teach Brynn to say "You're welcome" or "You are welcome".

Me: You

Brynn: You

Me: Are

Brynn: Are

Chad: Welcome

Brynn: Thanks!!

***

Brynn also knows that my nickname for Chad is "Babe". On Saturday night, we were in the van and Chad turned on the light to show me something. A few seconds later, Brynn chimed in and said "Babe! Turn off the light!!".

***

Brynn's language:

Vitamins = Vitamints
Contacts = Tontacts
Glasses = Gasses
Sweatshirt = Fetshirt
Couch = Towch (She can say couch, but she likes Towch better.)
Cover me up = Tubble me up or tubble me out
Green = Geen

***

Nicknames for the dogs:

Allie = Al. Allie Lallie.
Melody = Mel. Mellie. Noun. (Where the heck did that one come from?)
Jetta = Jetta Jetta

Daddy's Toodles

A couple weeks ago, Chad was out in the garage using his grinder and all of a sudden Brynn started making the sound that she's doing in the video. She was trying to sound like Chad's grinder!! She calls his tools "toodles". :)

Man, I love this kid!!

By the way, sorry for smudge mark on the video... I'm pretty sure it's from Brynn pushing the camera away because she didn't want me to take pictures or video of her!! (Seriously, that's why I haven't been posting lately!!)

Random

* Brynn was being quiet in her carseat (completely NOT NORMAL for her) and I caught her with her finger in her nose. I said "What do you think you're doing?!" in a joking voice and she said "Boogers in my nose Mommy... boogers tuck (stuck) in my nose"!!

* Brynn had her fingernails and big toenails painted for the first time ever on Sunday morning by Lindy. She only had her big toenails painted because she wouldn't sit still for the rest of them to get painted. She thinks it's the coolest thing EVER. She walks around holding her fingers all spread out saying "My neels (nails)." "Linny dude it my neels Mommy!" "Pitty neels!!" (Pretty nails!!)

* My mom came out to visit at the beginning of the year and it just happened to be lightning like crazy outside. There was a HUGE burst of lightning on one side of us and mom completely didn't see it, she was looking the other way. So, one of our on going jokes is that mom can't see things that are really obvious and right in front of her face. Tonight Brynn and Chad were walking inside from the garage, Chad saw a gecko and wanted to show it to Brynn. He tried to show her where it was and she kept looking everywhere except for where the gecko was. Just like Ammie!! :)

* Examples of her vocabulary:
Chicken - kickin
Grapes - bapes
Chocolate milk - cocky muck or chocky muck
White (or regular) milk - Reega muck
Elephant - elephanent
Alligator - Aldeegator

* She blames Brady at daycare for EVERYTHING. If she has a scratch on her arm, she says "Brady dude it". If her shirt is dirty, "Brady dude it". If she fell and hurt her knee at home, "Brady dude it".

* She still calls gum "dum".

* Potty training was going really well until this weekend, I don't know what happened but she's not into it at all now and throws a fit when we make her try to go.

* Her favorite book is the "Poop Book" from Lindy

* She thinks she can get out of doing anything, like getting a bath or going to bed, if she tells us she has to go potty. BUT SHE WON'T GO!!

* She loves babies. She got a baby and a stroller from Gramma and Ana for her birthday and she thinks they are SO COOL. She runs around the house with the stroller and loves to run into things, especially the dogs. We can't find the baby's clothes anywhere, she's been naked for a month.

* She loves iced tea.

* She tells the dogs "HUSH GUYS!!" when they're outside barking.

* She also says "BACK UP! BACK UP! when the dogs are in her way.

* She always wants the dogs to come and see her. She says "Jetta, a meer" (Jetta, come here!) a lot. Jetta's a sucker and usually listens. :)

* She LOVES to talk on the phone. Actually, she loves to "pretend" to talk on the phone. She'll grab my phone, or the house phone, and say "Ha whoa? Yeah. Ammie Hi-Yo. Bye bye." Translation: Hello? Yeah. Ammie is in Ohio. Bye bye.

I have to admit, I've been horrible about taking pictures lately. Mostly, it's because Brynn doesn't want to have her picture taken. She always looks away from the camera or says "Mommy, no tamra"!! Sorry kid, get used to it... you'll love me for it later!!

Brynn's 2nd Birthday - Party # 1

This year we had Brynn's birthday party on the 18th, it was a little early but it worked out great!! We really tried to keep it low-key because we went overboard last year. We ended up having a pool party at Jenn's mom's house with a "fishie" theme.

Jenn and I (99% Jenn) made Brynn's cake and it turned out awesome!! She's so creative and crafty, I wish I could do all of the things she does (she'll probably tell you that she's not, but don't believe her!). I think I might take a cake class sometime, I had a lot of helping her out.

We were really excited because GGMa was able to make it to the party this year. GGPa wasn't feeling well, so he stayed home. Luckily, he's doing much better now. We were also excited because Jody was in town for two weeks watching Brynn while Brenda was on vacation.

We ended up getting Brynn a 10 gallon fish tank and six fishies for her birthday. Fishie # 1 only lasted a few days. The other 5 are still alive and doing well!! Here is Chad setting up the tank:

Here are some pictures from the party (thank you Jenn and Ann!!):

Running Behind

I planned to have Brynn's birthday post up ON her birthday (yesterday she turned two!) but it's been a little crazy around here.

We found out Thursday (around 8:30PM! or so)that Chad's sister Ana, her boyfriend Keith and their daughter Kalynn were coming to visit the next day (on Brynn's birthday) and that they were staying with us. Jody (MIL) is still here visiting, so she, Chad and I flew around the house scrubbing it down because Keith is allergic to everything. :)

We were really bummed that they missed Brynn's birthday party last weekend but we're super excited that they made it for her big day!!

Today we're taking a quick trip up to Sedona to show them how beautiful it is (and to get us out of this freakin' heat). Tonight we're all going to dinner with GGMa and GGPa.

Within the next couple weeks, watch out! I'll be catching you up on June and July!!

Lately I've been on Facebook a lot more than I have been on here so for more up-to-date stuff, sign up for Facebook.com!!

Break Time

Sorry I've been on a blogging break, not a whole lot has been going on around here!!

I still need to post about my mom, Mimi and Lindy's visit FROM LAST MONTH and our trip to California. I'll catch up eventually, I swear!!

We've started a workout program called P90X and it's going ok... we really need to work on the nutrition part of it, we're horrible eaters. The exercise part is going ok. It's really tough, but it's going ok!! Bri and my mom have been doing it for about two months and I can tell a difference in both of them! (Me, jealous? Yes. UGH.) Anyway, I'm really happy for them. Bri is actually one of their "coaches". If you are interested in it at all, please let me know, I'll get you in contact with her!!

Chad's mom drove in on Sunday and will be here through next week, Brenda (Brynn's sitter) is on vacation!! Brynn's calling her "Damma" or "Namma", she can't make up her mind. :)

Potty training was going great while my mom was here last month, then we went to California, Brynn used a different potty and got completely freaked out. Up until today, she had only used hers like 3 times since then. Jody's been working it with her again this week and she's doing pretty good!! Thank goodness. Hopefully we can keep it up. Tonight after work, I went to Costco and bought diapers, pull ups and wipes. $100 later... ugh.

We're having Brynn's 2nd birthday party on Saturday (a little early, her birthday is on the 24th), so I'm trying to get things together for that. Jenn is awesome and is making Brynn's cake again this year and we're having a swimming party at her mom's house. It's the perfect party house. We're doing a fish theme and I'm really excited about it!! I'm trying to keep it low-key this year, we went WAY overboard last year. I think Brynn will just be excited to see so many people she knows!!

We had her two year pictures taken over the weekend and a few of them turned out AWESOME. I'll post them closer to her birthday.

I still can't believe our little girl is going to be two years old. Ahhh...

Things That Have Broken In The Last Month

* Mom's cell phone. I dropped it and it broke, she got a new one, so she was actually pretty happy that I dropped it.

* Right rear tire.

* Coffee pot. Which is also a good thing, when the coffee was done, it would SCREEEAAAMMMM at you.

* Dvd player in the office. It just says "loading" and doesn't do anything. Got a new one, luckily regular dvd players are super cheap now.

* Sliding glass door. Mom was trying to be helpful and use the weedwacker. She accidentally hit one of Mel's dog bones and the door shattered. What kind of luck is that?! I'm just glad no one got hurt!!

* Refridgerator. We noticed when we got home from California that the icemaker wasn't working and stuff was thawing out. We (Chad) kind of played around with it a little bit and it worked for a day. Then it didn't. Then it did. Now it's not. This one is going out in the garage and the one that is in the garage is now coming inside.

Did I miss anything??

What's next?? I'm taking the van in for an oil change and a "bath" tomorrow. I know there's a lot of maintenance that is just about due, so I'm sure I'll have quite the estimate when I leave there tomorrow. Hmph.

G's

As I was chewing gum, Brynn walked up to me and said "dum". Then, she said "Mommy dum". Kiddo, we really need to work on those G's!!
